The Importance of Engagement Shoots
On August 14th, 2023, I had the pleasure of planning a producing an engagement shoot for one of my couples, Mieci Gresham and Antone Bunbury. The setting of the engagement shoot was Cator Woolford Gardens in Atlanta, Georgia. The photographer we tapped for the session is Taun Henderson Photography, one of the best wedding photographers in the city. The concept with this shoot was “The Enchanted Forest”. A foreshadowing of what is to come for the wedding. The couple dressed in all black and we had them to take pictures on the stairwell and walking through the gardens. Capturing them laughing, talking, and sharing the sweetest kisses. “The Enchanted Forest” is the foreshadowing of what it is to come for the wedding. It will be the most classic fairy tale, Cinderella-esque wedding. This couple will be tying the knot at the Biltmore Ballroom on May 4th, 2024.
Engagement sessions creates one of the most important vendor relationships you have. Your photographer. These sessions provide a great time to build trust and a sense of comfort. Sessions can be causal, formal, cocktail attire, etc. The connection that’s created between the couple and the photographer allows the couple to be feel very comfortable in front of the camera. The photographer will be able to get a feel for the couple’s style, personality, and preference. The photographer is tasked with capturing the most special and intimate moments of your big day. That’s why it is so important for your photographer to get to know you. They’ll be able to create an engagement session that’s tailored just for them.
Usually, the photos from your engagement shoot are usually used for the save-the-dates, which goes out to your friends and family six to nine months before your wedding. I always advise my couples to book a session with their photographer around 10 months or more in advance. Doing this gives your photographer plenty of time to edit your photos and you’ll be able to design your invitations. Especially if your engagement is longer than a year. Always remember, your engagement shoot is a time for you to express yourselves creatively as a couple and give your friends and family a sneak peek for what it is to come for your big day.
