Being a bridesmaid is great honor, however, it also comes with some responsibilities. Including supporting the bride emotionally and making sure everything runs smoothly on the big day. It’s a role that requires dedication and teamwork. Whether you’re well rounded or this is your first go around, understanding what’s expected of you can help you shine and ensure the bride’s experience is unforgettable. Today, we have curated a list of duties and responsibilities you can expect and how to be the best bridesmaid possible.
Supporting the Bride. As a bridesmaid, it is essential to be a supportive friend to the bride. Mentally and emotionally. Planning a wedding can be stressful, and it’s very common for brides to be overwhelmed. Offer a listening ear and keep the communication seamless. Whether the bride needs help deciding on the linens and invitations or wants to vent about a minor inconvenience , be there to offer support, positivity, and encouragement.
Attend Pre-Wedding Events. Bridal shower. Bachelorette party. Rehearsal. Rehearsal dinner. You are expected to be present at all pre-wedding events. Planning and paying for the bridal shower and bachelorette party is another expectation. The Maid of Honor usually leads in the planning, but as the bridesmaid , you’re there to support the efforts.
Attend Appointments. Most bridesmaids attend dress appointments with bride and offer support in choosing her dress and other bridal attire for the upcoming celebrations of love. Make sure you know the attire as well so your dresses (as bridesmaids) coordinate.
Assist with Wedding Planning Tasks. Offering your assistance to help with smaller tasks can make a huge difference. Tasks such as running errands, coordinating wedding photos, escort cards, handing out programs, and keeping the bridal party on track. Attending the hair and make-up trials, picking up rentals are all a big help as well. When greeting guests, be sure to have a smiling face and a helping hand.
Buy a Wedding Gift. Buy a wedding gift for the couple off their registry. But also, don’t be afraid to go a little bigger. Combine resources for a big gift if you have to. For example: spa day, facials, personalized jewelry, or even a handmade gift basket. With the handmade basket, you can include: a plush bathrobe, personalized mugs, snacks, date night wines or champagnes.
Assist with Post Wedding Tasks. Gather the personal items for the bride. Transport the gifts. Attend the Post-wedding brunch. Help with returns in regards to the vendors and rental companies. Don’t forget to share photos and videos.
